Theodosia Inlet – Old Farm Homesteads

In September  I went by quad to Theodosia Inlet, a 1.5 hour quad ride from Wilde Rd north of Powell River, up some rather steep, hairy embankments and along old abandon logging roads and past a few rather large de-activations. One in the inlet we discovered immediately its history now and its history then, passing through first a very active log sorting area then on past the loading area which once stood one of the oldest settlements here in the Powell River area, long gone now all except the old wharf, the rest now a active landing area for the logging companies.

We found along side the road railroad pilings in the inlet, as well as old wharf pilings, so we ventured down some very untravelled paths and came across an old home, long since demolished more than likely to prevent squatters, but small things remained like old outboards. Up the hill we came across an old homestead house, some farm equipement, one a old rotortiller, and in the pictures you will see the wheel hubs are made of wood, creative if you have no money, held together by bolts and rubber strips, this is an interesting piece of do-it-yourself history. The homestead cabin, almost gone now appears to also after its use as a homestead was a day cabin for previous logging days, the fridge has cold beverages for 10 cents, a vehicle door sits there also, the rest of the truck almost flattened 2 kilometers away.

Up the road some more we went down an area that was obviously an old homestead, original small sheds, chicken coups, haybarns sit spread out, however taken over at one point by logging companies, importing mobile homes, arco trailers as sleeping quarters. The original workshop is still there, sagging on one side as the riverbed is slowly eating away undercutting it now. Many things we discovered at this location, more than we could do without planning to be there, our next trip in there will be earlier in the day, longer, and with more batteries as well camera preparedness. I will be uploading a movie soon, using my new GSP Camera which mounts on my helmet, or the quad so keep looking here, some amazing footage in it, otherwise enjoy the pictures.
